On the banks of the Tongariro River, you will find the Tongariro National Trout Centre - where you can view wild trout through an underwater viewing chamber, see the trout hatchery and even let the kids have a go at catching their own trout.

People can fish for trout as long as they have a licence and obey rules. Licenses are inexpensive, and can easily be obtained from any Department of Conservation office or other stores nearby.
